ABOUT LAURA

Laura Schmeling is originally from New Haven, Indiana. She grew up out in the country and had a strong connection with nature. At an early age she began to draw, paint and build things with wood or anything she could get her hands on.  She earned her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where she specialized in Drawing.  

In 1999, Laura began her own business doing custom Artwork, Airbrushing, Murals, Metal Garden Art & Illustrations for people and businesses in and around Fort Wayne, Indiana. Laura has illustrated a book of inspirational poetry and two children’s books that have been published. She actively participated in group and solo Art shows and has taught classes through numerous venues and most recently with Acrylic and Alcohol Ink painting.  

In 2009, Laura moved to Bemidji, Minnesota where she is a part of a vibrant Art community and has had the opportunity to explore the natural settings of the area. Her most recent artistic endeavors have been in creating Art pieces painted on handmade papers derived from natural materials such as pumpkin, asparagus, banana and pineapple pulp. 

In 2018, Laura applied for and was chosen to paint a fiberglass dog that was displayed outside of City Hall Downtown for the walking tour with the Bemidji Sculpture Walk. She’s an avid gardener, participates in the community as much as she can and especially loves to go fishing. Traveling, Artwork and Animals have always been a motivating passion in her life. Laura lives with her husband Wayne, young son Colter and their two Spinone Italiano bird dogs, Isabella and Eleanor
